About Bastion Games

Hi, my name is Nathan, and I’m the owner of Bastion Games. I founded my store in December of 2011 with a dream: I wanted to build a community that my future children would be proud to be a part of. I knew that if my goal was getting rich, I would have sold air conditioning units in the summer, and heaters in the winter. Hobby games have always been a passion of mine, ever since my father read me The Lord of the Rings by our crackling fireplace before I could even read books like that myself. I wanted to bring that enjoyment and imagination into as many houses and too as many families as I could. My original location was a run down small space. The first year I worked 364 days straight, averaging 16 hours a day as with a family on the way, I only had one shot to succeed, and failure simply wasn’t an option.

Bastion Games was founded on three core principles: Community, Customer Service, and Selection. “If I was a customer of Bastion Games, how would I want to be treated?” is a question that I ask myself every single day, whether it be greeting people walking in the front door, or answering questions on social media. Focussing on my core principles, I was able to grow my business over the next several years, and hire an amazing team of employees! “Me” became “We”, and we took the next big step by moving the business to a significantly larger, and more centralised location.

The biggest hurdle we faced in recent years was Covid. Not being able to have people gather when one of your founding principles is “Community” made for a very difficult situation. We survived Covid for several reasons: 1) we pivoted our in store space to have a significantly larger selection; 2) we reduced risk and overhead while offering to the door delivery; and 3) you. Your patronage is, and always will be, the most important aspect of our success, and without it, we would not be here today. The best part of owning my store has always been the people I get to meet and introduce to these games! I have had the privilege of meeting thousands of wonderful people over the years!

The year following Covid, we focussed on regrowing what we love the most about a game store: the community. Over that time, we have evolved the definition of our core principles, and wrapped them all up into one goal: the pinnacle customer experience. We want to offer every customer an experience that can’t be paralleled by volume online sellers. After many meetings, group brainstorms, and late night homework sessions, my team and I decided that the best way to do that would be a website. This website is being built around our core principles, and the pinnacle customer experience. It is going to be an interesting journey for us as we work towards all of our future goals, and we are excited for you to join us on it!
